Mother-tongue education has been implemented after the Return. However, using Cantonese instead of Modern Standard Chinese in teaching brings various problems. This article examines the relationship between Modern Standard Chinese and Cantonese in language teaching, and attempts to find out a reasonable way to resolve the problems from a linguistic point of view.
