This is a summarizing presentation of the latest development of Chomsky's formal syntax, namely, the state of the art of the Minimalist Program. It begins with the philosophical basis for formal syntax, and proceeds to the relationship between language faculty and cognitive system, the relationship between language acquisition and syntactic theory, and the interface relationship based on the two. It also briefly discusses the latest development of techniques, such as derivation by phase, parallel derivation and derivation cycles.
