Citation: ETD 2009 : 12th International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations : June 10–13, 2009, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA.
Abstract: This paper explores the incidence and impact of ETDs and Open Access in China and the broader region. The markets are very different from Europe and the Americas. A survey has been completed for this paper and the results are presented.
The presentation reveals a picture of uneven development across the region. It shows great interest in these matters but uneven strategic commitment to this development at this particular time. The pressures on libraries in this region are different and the degree of collaboration is still emerging.
A summation of the situation also presents a brief overview of publishing.
Description: The conference was organized by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh and co-sponsored by West Virginia University.
Steve O'Connor was a featured speaker of the conference.
The paper was with research assistance from Christina Chau.
