Title: 领导行为与领导有效性关系的比较研究 = A comparative study on the relationship between leadership and leader effectiveness

Authors: Wu, Min (吳敏); Huang, X. (黃旭); Yan, Hong (閻洪); Xu, Jiuping (徐玖平)

; These authors have conducted survey on respondents in Chinese enterprises. Based on the comparative study of transactional leadership, transformational leadership and paternalistic leadership, these authors have analyzed the relationship between these leaderships and leader effectiveness, drawn the conclusion that these leaderships can predict leader effectiveness, and transformational leadership has stronger predictive effect on leader effectiveness than the other two leaderships do.

Based on the comparative study of transactional, transformational, and paternalistic leadership behaviors, the features and adaptabilities of three type leadership behaviors in Chinese enterprises have been analyzed. The unique dimension of moral in Chinese leadership is found. And the mechanism that leadership influences employees’ working attitudes and behaviors through the mediating effect of organizational justice and trust is checked.

Extending the understanding of end user information systems satisfaction formation: An equitable needs fulfillment model approach

Title: Extending the understanding of end user information systems satisfaction formation: An equitable needs fulfillment model approach

Authors: Au, Norman; Ngai, W. T. Eric; Cheng, T. C. Edwin

Abstract: End user satisfaction (EUS) is critical to successful information systems implementation. Many EUS studies in the past have attempted to identify the antecedents of EUS, yet most of the relationships found have been criticized for their lack of a strong theoretical underpinning. Today it is generally understood that IS failure is due to psychological and organizational issues rather than technological issues, hence individual differences must be addressed. This study proposes a new model with an objective to extend our understanding of the antecedents of EUS by incorporating three well-founded theories of motivation, namely expectation theory, needs theory, and equity theory. The uniqueness of the model not only recognizes the three different needs (i.e., work performance, relatedness, and self-development) that users may have with IS use, but also the corresponding inputs required from each individual to achieve those needs fulfillments, which have been ignored in most previous studies. This input/needs fulfillment ratio, referred to as equitable needs fulfillment, is likely to vary from one individual to another and satisfaction will only result in a user if the needs being fulfilled are perceived as “worthy” to obtain.; The partial least squares (PLS) method of structural equation modeling was used to analyze 922 survey returns collected form the hotel and airline sectors. The results of the study show that IS end users do have different needs. Equitable work performance fulfillment and equitable relatedness fulfillment play a significant role in affecting the satisfaction of end users. The results also indicate that the impact of perceived IS performance expectations on EUS is not as significant as most previous studies have suggested. The conclusion is that merely focusing on the technical soundness of the IS and the way in which it benefits employees may not be sufficient. Rather, the input requirements of users for achieving the corresponding needs fulfillments also need to be examined.

Development of an RFID-based traceability system: experiences and lessons learned from an aircraft engineering company

Title: Development of an RFID-based traceability system: experiences and lessons learned from an aircraft engineering company

Authors: Ngai, W. T. Eric; Cheng, T. C. Edwin; Lai, Kee-hung Mike; Chai, P. Y. F.; Choi, Y. S.; Sin, R. K. Y.

Abstract: This paper presents a case study of the research and development of an RFID-based traceability system in an aircraft engineering company in Hong Kong. We report the system design and implementation, and discuss our experiences and lessons learned. The aim of the RFID system is to effectively support the tracking and tracing of aeroplane repairable items in the company. The study reveals eight critical success factors for the successful implementation of RFID systems, namely, create strong internal and external motivation for improvement, stir up desire to keep abreast of the latest technology for global competitiveness, strive for cross organizational implementation, avoid major process changes/limit process changes, start with a small RFID project scope, facilitate equipment vendor's investment, use cost-effectiveness reusable tags, and transfer RFID skills and knowledge from university to industry. We also summarize 13 lessons learned, including three lessons concerning RFID implementation at strategic level, six lessons at management level, and four lessons at operational level resulting from carrying out this project. Given the contextual details of the study, the lessons learned can help other firms to better anticipate the hurdles they will experience, and make them aware of the possible ways to cope with such difficulties before embarking on the journey of RFID implementation.

Description: DOI: 10.5555/ijop.2007.16.5.554
